“KEVIN THOMAS/Second Life Electric Avatar (Self Released) The bio I got described this music as a progressive rock album and I would say that isn't far off the mark. This is blues rock to me with some nice chops on it. He really plays the tunes with a lot of soul and feeling and that just comes across in the music. His voice really doesn't sound like anybody he has had comparisons to Steve Perry of Journey and I don't hear that and I am a big fan of Journey. His voice just comes across as smooth and soulful and though this is a bit different than all the black and death metal I get, I liked it for what it was and the songs are solid rock numbers with some progressive stuff filling in the mix. In the Hall of the Mountain King Jam Orchestral - Starting with a distortion laden guitar, this is a killer rendition of the classical piece. “Originally, Kevin submitted the track, Little One for review. I couldn't resist checking out the entire album though, I am nosy like that - it's some sort of compulsion or disorder or something. What I found pleasantly surprised me, and puzzled me. My introduction to Kevin set me up for "Acoustic Rock artist in the style of Sting, Steve Perry and Bruce Dickinson." Now, Sting is an acquired taste, Steve Perry gets overplayed and Bruce was a nice old school touch that I was looking forward to hearing and whereas I hear what people are getting at with the actual quality of Kevin's voice, there isn't enough anger behind the delivery for Bruce. However, if I were to describe Kevin in three artists, based on this album, I would say - REM, but better, a touch of Black Lab and more than a dash of James of Laid fame in the 90s. A: It really depends the song. Some naturally flow vocally and some flow through the guitar structure. Together Makes Two was more about the mood of a moment. Thank you!
