Acoustic Traditions Concert at Uptown Arts Bar 3611 Broadway 816-960-4611 June 23rd (sat) @ 9pm cover: $5 at the door for more information contact: Kevin Hiatt - 816-379-8105 email@example.com Three acoustic oriented musical groups will convene at the Uptown Arts Bar on June 23rd at 9pm for an 'Acoustic Traditions' concert featuring their contrasting musical styles. The newly formed trio of 'Penniman, Hiatt and Mott' consists of Kevin Hiatt on 6,7,12 string and baritone guitars, Victor Penniman on electric bass viol/fretless bass, and Dustin Mott on percussion. This ensemble combines the sounds of American Fingerstyle Guitar with the early music influences of viol de gamba playing. Their repertoire ranges from 'paisley folk' vocal songs to progressive jazz fusion based instrumentals. The well known vocalist/songwriter Heather Thornton has formed the Walltalkers with songwriter/producer William Saunders and percussionist Chip Mueller. While the term 'Americana' is the best descriptive of their sound the songwriting is solidly original and expands Thornton's vocal style beyond the bluesy jazz she is already known for. William Saunders adds his songwriting and production skills to the mix drawing on his years of experience writing and producing artists on his label Saunders Street Records. Rounding out the evening will be Doug Goodhart, on mandolin/violin with percussionist Allaudin Ottinger playing a mix of Balkan music with middle eastern percussion grooves. Goodhart has played with numerous KC based traditional musicians such as Connie Dover, Kelly Werts, and Roger Landes. Allaudin Ottinger is a founding member of the BCR band and a master of various middle eastern handrums. The evening promises to be one of the most interesting acoustic music shows of the summer. Sets will be presented in rotating 30 minute intervals starting at 9pm in order to afford plenty of time for artist/audience interaction. The Uptown Arts Bar features a quality list of wines and short plate food to enhance what promises to be a highly enjoyable night of innovative acoustic music.
