Bassist Kevin Deitz’s CD, Skylines, was released in 2009 on the Origin Arts label, garnering international airplay and breaking into Jazzweek Magazine’s top 50 in it’s 3rd week of release. Joining Kevin will be Portland’s finest musicians including pianist George Mitchell; trumpet/ flugelhorn and session ace, Paul Mazzio; vibraphonist, pianist and PHD recording artist, Mike Horsfall; and sax/flute master, composer/arranger, John Nastos and the great Mike Snyder on drums.
Kevin Deitz and Friends is returning to Ivories Jazz Lounge on Saturday, January 18th, from 8PM-11PM at 1435 NW Flanders in Portland, OR. Advance reservations: 503-241-6514. The group is returning after their previous sold out performances, playing selections from Kevin’s 2009 CD, Skylines, plus new material written since the release. Stylistically, it’s an evening of straight-ahead jazz, latin, funky fusion and special arrangements of jazz standards. Joining Kevin will be an all-star line up of musicians including Los Angeles expatriate, David Goldblatt. David has played piano and keyboards for Diana Ross, Tribal Tech (Scott Henderson & Gary Willis), Vinnie Colaiuta, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Stanley Clarke, Dizzy Gillespie and was the musical director for the Dennis Miller Show. Drummer/percussionist, Gary Hobbs rejoins the group and is an alum of the Stan Kenton big band, has also played with Randy Brecker, Bud Shank, George Cables, Tom Grant, Pete Christlieb, Anita O'Day, Dan Siegel, and Glen Moore. Trumpet/flugelhorn and session ace, Paul Mazzio has performed live with Tony Bennett, Larry Carlton, The Moody Blues, Terence Blanchard, Natalie Cole, Dianne Reeves and numerous national touring Broadway productions. Vibist/pianist and PHD recording artist, Mike Horsfall has played with Bud Shank, Bobby Shew, Leroy Vinegar, Chuck Redd, Holly Hofman, and Rebecca Kilgore, and has worked with such notable groups as Pink Martini, the Nu Shooz Orchestra, and the Portland Chamber Orchestra. Sax/flute master, composer/arranger, John Nastos is a recent graduate of the Manhattan School of music and has performed with Diane Shurr, Third Angle New Music Ensemble, Darrell Grant’s On the Territory, and the Damian Erskine Project. Kevin Deitz has worked in the classical, jazz and pop music worlds, playing with the Portland Opera, Portland Ballet, many regional chamber orchestras and jazz and pop legends, Mose Allison, Dave Brubeck, Herb Ellis, Benny Golson, Kenny Rankin, Moody Blues, Brian Wilson, Sheena Easton, Toni Tennille, Mason Williams, and Frankie Avalon
