Katharine Whalen's Lucky

Lucky is an original Rock & Roll band based out of Chapel Hill, NC. Lead by Katharine Whalen and Will Dawson of The Squirrel Nut Zippers, it features Ken Johnson on Guitar, Nathan Golub on Steel Guitar, Darrell Young on Bass, and Steve Newton on Drums.

Lucky plays American Rock & Roll Music, thick with surf tones and 4-part harmonies. Inspired by the music of pop luminaries such as Marshal Crenshaw, Treat Her Right, and George Harrison, Lucky strives to rock and roll and make people happy! *** Katharine Whalen is a founding member of the Chapel Hill, NC group The Squirrel Nut Zippers. After heavy rotation on MTV and their Platinum release “Hot”, the Zippers took a hiatus in 2001. When they reformed for their subsequent sell-out tour in 2007, Will Dawson was asked to join the group to play Guitar, Saxophone, and Piano. Whalen and Dawson began to write songs together that lent themselves to a more rock and roll realm outside of the Zipper’s music. They formed Lucky with a local staple rhythm section from the seminal bar band, Da Muthas.
