“Bakersfield's First Friday activities will be highlighted this week with a very special art exhibit at Metro Galleries. Former KNBC-TV and CBS News correspondent Bill Lagattuta, who also won an Emmy award for his reporting on the television news show "48 Hours," will present his new exhibition entitled, "American Dreamer: Roadsigns to a Re-Invented Life." Consisting of a collection of paintings and works in metal, Lagattuta says his efforts are "...about a restless need to make real images which evoke the frailties and triumphs of the human experience." The event is free and open to the public from 5 to 9 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by local actress and jazz vocalist Kama Ruby. She'll be backed by only a percussionist, local Latin jazz and salsa musician, Nunzio Urbina. This will be the first time they've played together as a duet and the results should be interesting. Free hors d'ouerves and a no-host bar will be provided by Mama Roomba's restaurant. Suggested by”

"If you were one of the lucky ones at last month's show, you heard a never-rehearsed cover of The Eagles' "Hotel California" like none done before. Mix in some Lou Reed ("Walk on the Wild Side"), Tom Petty ("Breakdown"), as well as some acid jazz and jazz ballads, and the band gives you an experience that is unlike that of any other in the area. No one sounds like them."

“Local actress/vocalist Kama Ruby will be making her first appearance at Imbibe Wine and Spirits Merchant this Friday, Jan., 28, at 6:30 - 9:30 PM. Although not appearing with her band (Kama Ruby and Company), she'll be singing jazz standards, songs from artists as diverse as Sade and Steely Dan, and her own jazzy twists to classic rock tunes. If you haven't heard her before, you're in for a very pleasant and different experience as she demonstrates that jazz isn't just for the "straight-ahead" crowd.”

"Judging by the enthusiastic response from the crowd the last time this group performed here, it should be a lively and fun evening." Maccioli

“I think Joni Mitchell has been one of the bigger influences in my musical life. Her compositions are so rich with surprisingly complex lyrics and meter changes. I found her songs much harder to learn than I anticipated when I first thought up this project." http://www.examiner.com/jazz-music-in-bakersfield ”
