About
Justin creates a bewitching sound that lifts the listener out of the cacophony surrounding everyday life. From the moment that first chord is played, the audience is instantly transported to a different time and place: you imagine yourself walking down an old country lane where pies cool on windowsills and grandfatherly characters sit outside old country stores debating the finer points of fishing, the weather, and small town life; or perhaps you find yourself walking through Alphabet City taking in the sights and sounds that only the hipsters and artists of the East Village can provide. His music reflects the authenticity of his lyrical prose. Like Johnny Cash singing about life in Folsom Prison or Bob Dylan revisiting Highway 61, Justin Trawick writes songs that make you believe, make you envision the characters in his stories; the audience sees the world through his eyes, they hear lifes little conversations as they tread softly through his ears. The musicality of his live performances delivers a unique sharpness and clarity that demands your attention. Combine these songwriting qualities with a skilled and percussive guitar style and you get a new, fresh, and great alternative for people who are fans of G. Love, John Prine, David Gray, Jack Johnson, and Bob Schneider.
A poet is born, not made. Anyone can pick up a guitar, take a few lessons, and strum a couple of decent melodies; but there is only so much that can be taught when it comes to the art of songwriting and music performance. When Justin Trawick takes the stage he sings as if there is nothing he would rather be doing except connecting with his audience, even if its just for one moment during his performance. His fingers delicately pluck those familiar chordshis eyes close and for a brief moment he offers the contents of his soul to anyone willing to accept them. You probably wont ever see him flashing his bling on MTV Cribs, but if you look around hard enough, you just might catch a glimpse of him guitar strapped around his shoulders traversing that old country lane or meandering through an urban maze like the troubadours who came before him immersing himself in the encapsulating environment of human behavior and emotion singing about life, love, and everything in between.
Justin's Band is comprised of his three core members of the group, but is accompanied at many shows by friends and fellow musicians from around the DC Metro Area. These instruments include Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Percussion, Violin, Cello, and a Rapper. Due to a varying lineup of musicians and the creativity of the band, each performance is different, making it an exciting experience to both old and new fans of the music. This unique variation of ensemble also gives the band the ability to perform up to 20 times a month and keeps the creative juices flowing.
