For Immediate Release Tae Phoenix Release Show for Sophomore Album Set for April 24 Seattle, WA - February 20, 2014 Seattle roots-pop singer-songwriter Tae Phoenix will celebrate the release of her sophomore Album, "Outside the Lines" with a show at the Royal Room in Columbia City on April 24, 2014 at 7pm. Joining Phoenix onstage will be fellow local singer / songwriters Julia Massey and Whitney Mongé. Those interested can purchase advance tickets for $10 via Stranger Tickets, or pay $12 at the door. "Outside the Lines" was produced and engineered by noted Seattle producer and saxophonist Dave Miner at London Bridge Studios in Seattle. The album was fully fan-funded, with the bill for production costs footed by Seattle pianist, trial attorney, and arts patron Michael Withey, and another $7,000 contributed toward promotional costs via the crowdfunding site, Kickstarter. The album showcases Phoenix's range, versatility, and prowess as both songwriter and vocalist. The opening track, "Damned Old Flame," warns a younger sister about the dangers of charismatic men, while the story song "Moment I Try" reflects on the limits of what one human being can truly do for another, and the bawdy twelve-bar shuffle "Down & Dirty Way" continues the female blues tradition of making the sexual political through song. The first single from the album, "Let the Light In," which dives into the story behind Phoenix's recovery from depression, was released on BandCamp and SoundCloud yesterday, along with a B-Side that features Phoenix and her band playing a completely different arrangement of the same song. "Recording this song was one of the hardest things I've ever done," said Phoenix. "It's easily the most personal work I've ever put out there, and there are two sides to it: the reality of everyone's suffering, and the realization that we are all beautiful because of that suffering. "I wasn't satisfied with how it was coming out in the studio at first. We had some tears (mine) and some head butting before things were worked out. In the end, we recorded two arrangements; each one reflects the realities in play differently. This song kind of asked me to release it as a dyad rather than a single, so that's what we've done here." The album and single both feature drawings by Seattle-born cartoonist Dylan Meconis. Meconis is the author of the critically-acclaimed graphic novel Bite Me, the webcomic Family Man, and the Eisner Award-nominated digital comic Outfoxed. She is based in Portland. ####END###
