Josh X-an-tus enters the playing field with chops honed since his pre-teen days. The native New Yorker began piano on the insistence of his mother at the age of 6, which led to classical training at the famed Julliard School of Music. His education continued with him earning a degree from Five Towns College, home to R&B songstress Chrisette Michelle as well as Julian Casablancas (of The Strokes), Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael.
Audiences first became acquainted with Josh via his hot buzz song “Let’s Ride,” featuring Jadakiss. The video also did well and was featured in MTV’s top ten countdown. Later, the former A Tribe Called Quest-affiliated MC Consequence took it upon himself to remix “Let’s Ride,” and brought in more star power with Busta Rhymes. It débuted on Kanye West’s blog, KanyeUniversecity.com/blog, to rave reviews.
He plans to keep the momentum going with his album, Can I Live. On the debut single, “First Time,” Josh describes, in almost breathless vocals, a young couple’s tender first lovemaking session. For anyone who recalls their first time falling in love or making love, “First Time” brings all those potent memories flooding right back. It’s a classic, come-hither introduction to Josh’s world. Josh X-an-tus is signed with independent label, M USA ENTERTAINMENT, who has distribution through major label EMI. Josh X-an-tus has clearly concocted a winning formula, making the answer to his rhetorical Can I Live question pretty obvious to all who give the album a spin. But in case you missed it, the answer is a resounding “Yes,” and he does it quite well.
