Opening for Josh Damigo at the Fifth Avenue Side Stage
On a sunny summer afternoon in 2011, Lieutenant Joshua Taylor stepped off a plane in San Diego, walked out of the Navy and into the arms of his wife. This is where his life in music truly began… Joshua Taylor’s musical stew of blues, soul, folk, jazz and rock reflects a life of diverse musical influences. From his slow, folk-pop ballads to his up-tempo electric soul tunes, Josh sings earnestly of the experiences of redemption, despair, loneliness and triumph which are so central and universal to the human story. His early adult years spent as a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and his subsequent years of personal struggle at home and at sea have profoundly impacted Josh’s life and his music. “Everyone has their own flavor of the basic human experiences. I think that’s part of what makes a good lyric so compelling–people look to musicians to express those parts of themselves they find hardest to articulate.” Josh first picked up on electric blues music as a teenager in Oklahoma City, and his personal voyage through classic blues, soul, and jazz records naturally followed. The folk and country music so prominent in the Heartland instilled in him a strong attraction toward lyrical sensitivity and honest expressiveness. Josh is constantly striving for both the technical mastery of his most beloved players and the linguistic artistry of his favorite songwriters. Connecting with listeners of broad musical tastes, Joshua Taylor communicates across genre lines with the most persuasive and enduring of all messages: Authenticity. http://www.joshuataylormusic.com/
