John Shaw Group was formed in late August of 2007 when John went seeking like minded musicians to form a band very different than those he worked with in the past. Its sound was to be a sum of blues, rock, jazz, and other influences, and it would be an outlet for a large body of original material. From the first rehearsal, it was clear to the group members that they were of a similar musical focus and had great chemistry. They began playing in the Nashville area in September 2007 and have played over 25 shows at venues all over town, as well as shows throughout the state and around the midwest. The initial support they received was phenomenal, and they have had success in building that fan base ever since. Though they draw a college crowd, they are much loved by young music fans and older traditionalist crowds alike, and have become a favorite to many club owners in the area. They have also begun to branch out from Nashville, playing gigs in the blues mecca of Memphis, college towns such as Lawrence, Kansas, and the birthplace of Rock and Roll: Cleveland, Ohio. John Shaw Group has recently signed with Acklen Records, and will soon be releasing an EP of material cut at Oceanway Nashville .
