About
John began playing the piano when he was 7 years old, and was improvising on saxophone by 11. Strongly influenced by the likes of John Coltrane, Ben Webster, Branford Marsalis and Mark Turner, John has grown into a formidable improviser and composer, and has mentored quite a few up and coming performers as a jazz educator.
Has performed with countless named artists, among them Blue Note recording artist trumpeter Marcus Printup and former Jazz Messenger pianist – composer Donald Brown, performed at Preservation Hall, received numerous outstanding soloist awards, and won the Down Beat Collegiate Music Awards.
Recently, John won the jazz song category in the 2009 Independent Music Awards with one of his compositions "Mode Time" from his recent debut CD entitled Holding Time.
He now directs the Jazz program at Jacksonville University and performs festivals and club bookings in the southeast.
