Q: Ifwater is made of Hydrogen and Oxygen Why won't it burn or Float?
A: Interestingly enough if you burn hydrogen in the presence of oxygen you get 2H20. That was one of the attractions of the Hydrogen fueled car. Interestingly enough solar panels release amounts of hydrogen too. The mind boggles. Anywho, Hydrogen is flammable but Oxygen as a gas will not burn in atmosphere. It will combust under extreme pressures though, or when mixed with another chemical (propane for instance but in the case of the oxygen/propane torch cryo controlled oxygen is used). So, when Hydrogen and Oxygen bond, the reaction (which is what burning is) has already happened. Why won't it float? Because in the reaction of the bonding the mass has changed and it has changed into a liquid. Of course it will float if given the right conditions. We know this as steam or clouds.
