"I cut ('Perfectly Normal') to get a record deal," Henley said in a phone interview. The album did catch the attention of RCA Records, who invited him to Nashville to play. Though the head of the label's A&R liked Henley's music, the label decided he sounded too much like George Strait and "they didn't have a place for that, at the time", said Henley, who agrees he has a similar voice to Strait. The Texas crooner and Randy Travis are among his music influences.
