16 year old Jay Gaunt from New Jersey undoubtedly represents the future for the diatonic blues harmonica...Due to his exceptional technical talent and elegant use of the so-called "overblow"technique - which also enables to play chromatic scales on the diatonic harmonica - Gaunt has been taken under the wings of the progressive harmonica sizes Chris Michalek and diatonic harmonica answer to Steve Vai: Jason Ricci. The last mention has even co-produced on several of the cuts on the album...how successful is Jay Gaunt on Harmonicopia? Really well, actually. Much of the album, recorded with the cream of Memphis musicians at Willie Mitchell's Royal Studio. In addition, his distinctive throat vibrato (think Lee Oskar), especially stands out on its own on several cuts which he plays acoustic. Would you take the most vibrant contemporary harmonica on the pulse, check out Jay Gaunt latest album!
