J. Johnson grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago. He learned to play several instruments during his early childhood at the neighborhood church. His father wisely directed him to concentrate on becoming proficient on one of the several instruments at which he tried his hand.
Taking his fathers advice to heart, he decided to play the saxophone and is now proficient on the soprano, alto, tenor saxophones as well as the digital wind synthesizer & Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI).
The saxophone is his primary instrument of choice, however the skillful use of computers, cutting-edge technology, and synthesizers are important components in arranging and producing many of his original music compositions and World Wide Web presentations in his home studio.
