THE DUO Competition Auditions at Staqatto Piano Lounge (416 21st St East, Saskatoon) for Season 4 SCHEDULE OF SEASON 4 (MAY/JUNE) AUDITION NIGHT - MAY 14TH - TUSQ - free no cover charge WEEK #1 MAY 21 22 23 at TUSQ - 12 duo's x 3 = 36 WEEK #2 MAY 28 29 30 at TUSQ - 10 duo's x 3 30 WEEK #3 - QUARTER FINALS - JUNE 5 6 Broadway Theatre - 12 duo's each night WEEK #4 - SEMI-FINALS - JUNE 12 Broadway Theatre - top 12 duo's GRAND FINALE - June 20 Thursday at TCU Place - top 9 duo's compete for over $10,000.00 in cash prizes Saskatchewan's Biggest Talent Competition SEASON 3 HIGHLIGHTS Over a 5 week period 26 different musical duo's performed and were voted by a panel of judges and a live audience. Each week's eliminations narrowed it down to the best groups that performed at the Grand Finale on June 9th 2012 at TCU Place. Attendance of 900 in the audience was record setting and support was very strong with many standing ovations. Kirby & Josh were the Season 3 winners. Family Affair came in a very close 2nd place. Kirby & Josh won a $10,000.00 recording package from Rawlco Radio and $5,000.00 cash. String Drum came in #3. Justin & Matt were #4 and had major news media coverage in this article from the Star Phoenix. Voting and Judging Criteria Voters MUST be seated by the start of the show. Voters will receive one (1) ballot per person. Each ballot entry will contain the names of all the duo groups performing. You get to vote for 2 different groups - your 2 favorites by putting a checkmark beside the name of the 2 acts you like the most. You must vote for 2 different groups and are NOT allowed to vote twice for the same group. Ballots will be collected and counted immediately after the last performance each night. Audience ballots will account for 50% and be combined with the judge’s scores which will account for the other 50% to determine who will be eliminated. Judges will consist of local business personnel, media personnel, entertainers, or agents. Judges will be scoring on the following criteria: 1) Stage presence/personality 2) Vocal performance 3) Audience appreciation and interaction 4) Song difficulty 5) Overall presentation 1. All ages (10 to 90) may enter. 2. Tusq Restaurant / Staqatto Piano House reserves the right to use the contestants names, audio/video clips, pictures, and biographies for promotional purposes in newspaper, radio and website. 3. The following are not eligible: employees of Tusq / Staqatto, contractors for Tusq / Staqatto. The Duo Competition Origins The Duo competition came about because since opening its doors in 2009 Tusq Restaurant and Staqatto Piano Lounge have had non stop live entertainment promoting some of the best local talent in music. Keegan McAvoy and Terry Hoknes created the entire concept and run the entire competition. The concept was to create a different type of music competition than the typical singer/karaoke competitions that can be found everywhere including American Idol. This competition would be unique as it would promote 2 musicians working together to craft their unique sound and the competition would allow these performers to reach new audiences.
