About
Ivy Rich, an Edmonton native, is known as one of Edmonton's only & finest rock/celtic flautists. She has recently relocated to Vancouver to further pursue her rock/pop music career.
Ivy got her start playing in rock bands in 1996, with a young band who called themselves Ants On A Log. She performed with them for several months, and although not credited as such, was included on the band's demo recording (1996/1997).
After receiving classical training up to the graduate school level in formal universities, she turned her attention to writing and performing rock and folk music.
Currently she is focusing on learning guitar & singing . Check out her blog for the stories behind the songs.
Her favourite bands and influences range widely in style and include progressive rock guru Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull, jazz flautist Moe Koffman, irish flautist Chris Norman, as well as bands and performers such as Evanesence, Roxette, Offspring, Bad Religion, No Doubt, Gwen Stefani, Bif Naked and Madonna.
Drawing from her classical background and love of pretty much anything else, Rich is an extremely versatile flautist and is easily able to tailor her playing to the style of music at hand. She has performed on stage with Kristilyn Robertson, Dave Martin, Rhea March, Mary Rankin, Tim Chesterton, Myrol, and Mokojah, and was regularly seen on Saturday mornings at the Edmonton Old Strathcona Farmers' Market (and the City Market on 104 Street when in season). Now you can find her at Granville Island on select weekends!
She has been performing since January 2008 on flute and saxophone with Murder!Mutiny!and the Zazazas (punk/rock genre), and is featured on their recent EP, James
Rich met guitarist Ali Seifi in August 2006 and the two have been performing together since then. They performed their debut concert as The Honeybees in September 2007.
A solo CD entitled Minstrel in the Market, featuring favourites from her busking performances, was released in April 2008 and is available anywhere Ivy is busking. Future plans include a debut CD with The Honeybees, featuring mainstream pop and rock music. Rich released her first solo album, Meditations (under the name Amity Mitchell) in November 2006.
