About
Not taking themselves too seriously, Impulsive Decision made an impulsive decision to record three songs they had written.
NOW, With the release of their debut CD Far From Thru,
everyone else is taking them very seriously
When you put all their energy and musical backgrounds together, they create a force that mixes alternative rock with infectious/melodic pop, and their sound has a sense of urgency surrounding it. With the release of their debut 10-song CD Far From Thru in August of 2008, the band has hit the music scene head on. Their CD is selling consistently on Tradebit.com, iTunes, Amazon.com, CDbaby.com, Rhapsody.com and Napster.com. The reviews are glowing and their international fan base is growing rapidly. Listeners are crediting the catchy choruses and Brian’s edgy and forceful vocals, mixed with their hard hitting experimental sound, as the reasons why this band is hitting a nerve. Mixing all the right elements of pop and rock into one seem to be a winning formula for Impulsive Decision.

It might have been a bit of whim when five good friends from Blackwood, New Jersey decided to put together a three song demo back in May of 2007. Growing up in the South Jersey and Philadelphia area, all of their friends and families knew they were playing music, but it was really just about having fun. After months of rehearsing, they decided to put together a small budget to record the first three songs they had written as a band. They found an inexpensive recording studio, and they worked non-stop to complete the recording. Once the demo was done, they gave a copy to everyone they knew, and people were shocked at how good it was. It was at that time the five friends became Impulsive Decision, and there is absolutely nothing whimsical about the band these days. Impulsive Descision is Brian Murtaugh (Vocals); Mike Dolan (Guitar); Tom Macferran (Bass); Anthony Massi (Guitar) and Josh Beckem (Drums).

Their accomplishments as a young band are very impressive, from being finalists in the 2008 South Jersey Battle of the Bands contest to meeting and signing with manager Joe Scrocca of Scrocca Entertainment Group (SEG). Since signing with SEG in September of 2008, they have played live on Philadelphia's Radio 104.5 FM, have been featured in Alternative Addiction magazine, and have a brand new endorsement agreement with AMP Energy Drink. It was also announced at the end of last year that retailer Hot Topic will be selling Far From Thru nationally in stores.
Influenced by bands such as Alter Bridge, Creed, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taking Back Sunday and Sublime, the members of Impulsive Decision work extremely hard to get the exact sound they are looking for in their songs. Each new song has to fit into everyone’s vision, and that takes a lot of energy, with five members all needing to be heard. Their process is very solid and it works. The band comes up with the music and parts, and as Brian hears the music, it goes from his ears through his pen and onto paper. Almost a Zen-like experience, it all comes together like a force of nature, but it is never forced.
One key piece of Impulsive Decision’s success is the union between the two guitars. Rhythm and lead players Anthony and Mike were childhood friends, and have been playing and hanging out for over 10 years. That makes for some serious connecting when it comes to their music, a communication that speaks volumes and comes through loud and clear.
Another important dynamic of this fast rising band is their eagerness to attend other bands’ shows. They like to watch up and coming acts that are getting the “buzz” and bands that formed around the same time they got started. They also learn from watching very successful bands on stage. They draw from each level of experience, focusing on their own stage presence and finding ways to make their live show as unique as possible.
Every show they see drives them closer and closer towards their own dreams. Short term, they are looking to keep playing and writing great music, growing their fan base, promoting their debut album, and having a blast doing it. Long term, they would like to have the backing of a major label and be recognized as a world renowned touring band. With live shows coming up in and around Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York, Impulsive Decision is Far From Thru…in fact they are just getting started.
