ILL LOGIKAL – Biography<!--StartFragment-->
Born and raised in the small town of High Prairie, Alberta, ILL LOGIKAL got his start in music at an early age by watching his father play at functions around the Lesser Slave Lake area. Growing up around music eventually led him to pursue his own career in music, by creating his own group, Reddnation which went on to become one of the Country’s most dynamic Native hip-hop groups of all time.
A member of the Bigstone Cree Nation in Northern Alberta, he proudly identifies himself as an Aboriginal person – using his skills to reach out to youth from all walks of life. His music is a hybrid of contemporary hip-hop and Aboriginal values; highlighted by his signature production technique. Accented by throbbing basslines, infectious drum patterns, and captivating synth melodies, his message of simply keeping it real is delivered with the ease of a seasoned performer.
He has entertained audiences across Canada and is credited with being one of the true pioneers of Native Hip-Hop. He has given so much to the new genre, enabling it to grow and keep to its founding principles – to promote a positive way of life, live with respect, and remain humble.
After releasing a limited edition of his solo debut “The Grande Entry” in 2005, he placed his focus back onto Reddnation which went on to receive 5 awards in 2006 and 2007 for its sophomore album “Now or Never” which he produced. As a producer, he has had success for producing or (lending production on) three award-nominated albums (Chickadee MC – Fly, Reddnation – Unstoppable, Reddnation – Now or Never, Feenix - The Real O.G.) and received two consecutive nominations in 2006 and 2007 for “Best Producer” at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.
In the summer of 2008 after discussions with Crazy Cutz Records (Penticton, BC), he decided to once again enter the rap scene as a solo artist. Crazy Cutz, well-known label for 7th Generation and Sage Hills, agreed to release his next album tentatively titled “The Grande Entry 2 – The Example” to eager fans anticipating RN’s executive producer’s next project. The studio album will feature collaborations with some of Canada’s prominent Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal artists and producers. It will also feature DJ Combz on board as Executive Producer, with ILL LOGIKAL finding himself in a new role – as one of the game’s most promising solo artists. The album will be one of the albums to watch for in 2009.
