House Of The Rising Funk / Press

“This is dancing-shoes music. House of the Rising Funk's new album Fusionopolis is a fast-driving, raucous mix of jazz fusion, rock, and of course, funk. The first thing that struck me right away on track 1, the aptly named "Hustle Bustle," was the tempo. It's a song that's made to get you moving. That first song sets the tone for the record, and while the tempo slows, it never really calms down. There's a brief softness in "(El) Torro," but even that builds up into a heavy crescendo. Super fast and super funky, the shredding guitar solo from Brian Quarles on "What It Is" is a highlight. If you like sax, Mike Barlett's playful sax riffs can be found throughout the album. The rhythm section, 100% of which is named Scott, keeps it tight and upbeat. Fusionopolis, like many instrumental funk records, are made with the live show in mind. This is the kind of music that begs the listener to get up and dance. You'll be able to get a copy online at iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon very soon.”

“When House of the Rising Funk plug in for a midnight radio gig on WDVX, it's hard to know what to expect. When they start playing the groove is immediate. The funk is front and center, but there's a good dose of jazz and a surprising dose of heavy metal and maybe a little Jeff Beck in the guitar. It's music that has listeners emailing in, asking if the music is indeed live!”

"The group is taking an fresh approach to the jam band format, infusing a variety of influences into original tracks that feature arrangements that take advantage of the band's unique lineup."
