““ Philosophikal Kadence,” Horrifik Kreationz. From this up-and-coming rap/hiphop collective comes this well-stocked (22 tracks, including several skits) new record. Sonically, the disc is keen: clear vocals, thick beats and interesting use of synths and sound effects (guitar riff samples, backward masking, etc.) The rhyming skills of this crew are slick, ranging from super-tongued blasts to drawn-out couplets. True to the group’s name, there is a bit of an eerie, dark atmosphere on several of the songs — both musically and lyrically — much like that found on songs by RZA and his associated clans. Personally, I found the bouncy, upbeat “Move On” to be a highlight. I can see this being a popular song to get a dance club moving.
