HighKick / Press

“This Philadelphia area based group has made quite a splash on the local music scene. Their sound is a melodically pleasing mesh of genres. We caught up with HighKick during a special performance at Brittingham's in Lafayette Hill.”

“One of the most requested songs off the first album is “Black Bear,” a song with a backwoods, rockabilly beat – and there’s a reason for it. “Matt [Miceli] and I took a 3-day canoe trip down the Delaware and on the trip we saw a black bear swimming across the river. That night sitting around the campfire and drinking whiskey on the Pennsylvania bank of the Delaware River we wrote the song,” Mairs recalls. Miceli and Mairs take their music seriously but sometimes like to have fun with the lyrics. “Civil War Beard” is a friendly jab at their hirsute drummer Hilferty’s facial hair – mutton chops and shaved chin -- since removed. ”
