Bio
Exploding from Colorado’s dark alleyways, detoxification facilities, and detention centers like a guided missile, the mighty HellBound Billy roars into the unsuspecting world of music. Blocking out the sun, darkness falls upon the metropolis. Chaos and panic ensue. The terrified populace scream and scatter, for it seems Armageddon has arrived.
Nay, fellow citizens. Rejoice, for it is not the anti-Christ, but the saviors of Rock-and-Roll.
HellBound Billy has begun its assault upon the music scene. Winning souls with its original blend of American rock and roll, it seems their supremacy is inevitable. An unstoppable force, fueled by raw energy, created by a life on the edge of sanity.
About
Celebrating the darker side of the human psyche: The three-piece Hellbound Billy was formed in Denver, CO in 2008. Their first EP titled “The Hangover Sessions” will be self released in January of 2009 and will be available through many online outlets as well as around the Denver area. Around the time of the release they plan on revisiting the studio to record a new full-length album due for release in mid-2009.
Hellbound Billy’s eclectic mix of blues, swing, punk, and rock and roll goes far beyond the rockabilly genre suggested by their name. Dave Garlow’s vocals are strong and melodic, and the guitar work hearkens to a simpler time. The music is never overdone, just American musicians drawing upon the wide range of styles that America has produced. In an age when music is ever more commercially bland and homogeneous, Hellbound Billy is moving beyond traditional genres and making music that is fun to listen to and even more enjoying to see performed. Hellbound Billy is music from the gut, shaped by a life on the edge of sanity.
The song “Hellbound Livin Love” sets the stage, defining Hellbound Billy as the main character of the band’s music. Songs such as “I’m in Love With a Vampire” define the anger and frustration of this character’s relationships. The ballad “Dead and Gone” with the happy sounding melodies hides a dark secret in the lyricism of Garlow, mixing in orchestral influences on the upright bass makes this sad song particularly ironic and beautiful. Other songs reflect the tragic interactions and impressions the world has left on its members, from twisted serial killers to comedic horror-rock themes and songs about the trials of everyday life.
