About

Grupo Eclipse began as the childhood dream of two cousins, Fortino M. Avila Saguilan and Rody Avila Clavel, in their home town of Ciruelo, Oaxaca. In the mid 1990's, they left their native Mexico and relocated to the United States, bought a guitar and formed Grupo Los Mios, the first Mexican band in Winston-Salem, NC. The original lineup was comprised of self-taught musicians who, above all, just wanted to play music. Over time, with practice and experience, the band started to perform at local clubs in the state and grew into a force in the highly competitive North Carolina Hispanic music scene. The group recorded a self financed debut album titled “Paso a Paso” which showcased the writing talents of members of the group. Some of the songs from Paso a Paso remain in the group's current playlist and have become fan favorites. In 2001, the band recorded “Como Hermanos” for an independent record label named Discos Palmas International. The CD was well received and garnered airplay on many local and regional radio stations. Additionally, the group embarked on it's first mini tour in the midwest of the United States, playing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Unfortunately, for circumstances out of their control, the tour was cut short after only completing a few dates. Due to personal reasons, some members of Los Mios left the group and the remaining members, Fortino, Rody, and Mateo took some time to search for new members. Amazingly, the perfect people were with them all of the time...they just did not realize it. Mateo's sons Juan Carlos, and Roman Hernandes were accomplished musicians in their own right, they knew the music, and most importantly, they had the desire. With the change in personnel completed, the band began practicing again and started preparing material for a new CD. The name of the group was changed to Grupo Eclipse and Canto A Mi Costa was recorded in 2005 again for Discos Palmas International. The CD proved to be hit with the fans, and introduced the group to Daniel Mendoza who signed them to his label Ritmo Records in 2008. The band entered the studio in March to begin recording its next project; it's first for Ritmo Records and expects to have it ready for release sometime in 2008.
