“Green Genes is an often-shifting collection of experienced, talented musicians who play their own version of so-cal style reggae rock, definitely influenced by sublime, but also by real punk rock and bands like Agent Orange or Bad Brains. The 3-year-old project is the brainchild of local singer / songwriter / guitarist Brad Kinney, and it's worth mentioning that current bassist, Jay Peterson, plays like a complete badass, even thought he was wearing a beret for this show at EBC. On more than one occasion during the performance, he reminded this author of infamous jazz/fusion bassist Jaco Pastorious, both in his style of play and his appearance. These guys have appeared, in various forms and with various lineups, at several AAAlliance events in the past few years, and they'll be heading out to play some shows in Colorado and beyond, sometime in the very near future.”
“Green Genes explores the expansive realm of music combining reggae, soul, funk, rock, latin, hip-hop, surf, jazz, acoustic, and more. This makes for a unique hybrid sound that is guaranteed GREEN. Green Genes founder Brad Kinney is dedicated to say the least. With various changes throughout his life he always managed to stay true to his main goal; making original music while covering a wide array of different styles and blends. As well as a full band, Green Genes can and does operate in smaller variations as well, providing from solo, duo, or even trio performances both plugged and unplugged. So if you are a smaller venue don't be shy, Green Genes can still work for you.
