“Just Folk: Musicians Kick Off Traveling Series of Concerts --
John Goldstein and Gene Pfeiffer have been playing together for a number of years... so they know folk music is a tough sell in this town or any other.
The music requires quiet and attention, but folk acts often are booked in busy coffeehouses or other public, high-energy areas.
In an attempt to fight back, the duo are planning to host a series called the Folk Room, which will feature a variety of players in a "listening room" environment.
The first installment of the series will be tonight, upstairs at the venerable Central West End pub Dressel's.
Pfeiffer says that he's "not old enough to have been a part of the Gaslight era" but that he looks to the early 1960s Gaslight Square examples as a template: bringing a sort of variety show to each evening's bill, with a combination of music and other entertainment...”
