Rock band “Gate 1” from Frederick, MD was formed in February 2007. Consisting of Nik Blonder on the drums, TC on vocals, Mike Murphy on bass and Barry Seiver on lead guitar, the band's hook-driven melodies are reminiscent of Velvet Revolver and Foo Fighters.
At the beginning of 2007 Mike and Nik were looking to join or form a new band. Nik came across an ad posted by TC, and an exchange of demo tapes quickly followed between the three musicians encouraging them to join forces and form the band. The name “Gate 1” was inspired by the name of the road where the band has their rehearsal studio. The trio wasted no time with writing and recording of their original material. “Lady Starlight” the first song written by the band, was recorded as early as March 2007. The rest of the year saw Mike, TC and Nik honing their writing skills and recording songs as they wrote them with TC taking on guitar playing duties for the recording. Their debut album “Maximum Pumping” was completed in March 2008, featuring what the band felt were their ten best songs written up to that point. Confident in their vision of how the band should sound, the album was recorded, mixed and produced by Gate 1. Upon the completion of the album Barry Seiver joined Gate 1 on lead guitar in order to allow TC to fully concentrate on being the front man.
After a couple of successful live performances under their belt, Gate 1 was picked by Jay Nedry, the owner of Jaxx nightclub in Springfield, VA, to share the bill with Joey Belladonna (former Anthrax), and Funny Money, when these bands come to perform at his venue.
With the release of the “Maximum Pumping” CD set for early April, Gate 1 is looking forward to booking and playing live shows in support of their debut offering. “Our plan is to put all our energy in getting these songs heard by as many people as possible,” says TC. According to Nik, “This not just a hobby for us! We will do everything in our power to get as much exposure as we can and make this band a success”. Mike is quick to add “We had our CD professionally printed and packaged along with promotional posters, stickers and band T-shirts which will be available for sale at our shows”.
