“There was a rockin’ good time at the Port Hope Public Library on Monday evening, courtesy of local band Garage Dog and students from the Northumberland Rock and Roll Experience’s guitar program. Students of instructor Mike Woods, who is also the owner of the Northumberland Rock and Roll Experience located at 27 Walton St. in Port Hope, had the opportunity to showcase their skills at Monday’s event. There are two Student Showcase Concerts held each year; one in June and the other at Christmas. Each student that participates in the concert gets up to perform a song with local band Garage Dog (Joey Sakuma substituted for Savage on Monday). “It gives them a chance to really feel what it’s like to play in a band and perform in front of an audience,” Woods said. “It’s why all of the band members are into supporting it because we all would have loved something like this when we were that age. For us, we remember the first time we got on stage and this is just a fun show ”

“ A Cobourg District Collegiate Institute East student is holding a local event this weekend for a global cause. Steven Schill, who is soon entering Grade 12, has organized the World Vision Charity Concert on Saturday night at the Park Theatre in Cobourg. Admission is $10. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and will feature the local music of headliner Garage Dog, R&H Squared, Make Us Heroes and Cale Crowe. “Garage Dog has always been enthusiastic about getting involved with charitable causes, including an Anti-Bullying concert last year. Four of our five members are teachers with KPR and one as an independent music teacher,” Smith said. “We recognize, and want to support, our local youth when possible and this concert affords us the chance to share the bill with present and former students alike. This is happening because that's what live music can bring to the table and we are pretty pumped about it. We hope our loyal Dog Pound will throw their support behind Steve as well.”

“The Grafton Canada Day Parade is celebrating its 20th anniversary with more music, entertainment and fun for the whole family. Grafton's 20th annual Canada Day Parade will start at 1:30 p.m. with Cobourg's Town Crier, Tom MacMillan, leading the parade. It begins at Aird Street and travels west along County Rd. 2 to the Haldimand Memorial Arena where festivities will continue. As in previous years, the Cobourg Pipe Band and Sea Cadets will perform. New this year, Grafton will hold an Inaugural Strong Man Competition from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The band Garage Dog will perform at the arena for entertainment. The display and information booth area has expanded and welcomes six new groups. "The Grafton Canada Day celebrations have gone from just a handful of people coming out to participation from all four corners of the township," says Alnwick Haldimand Councillor Sandra Jaynes. "Our attendance is always really good and the community spirit is second to none."”

“The Lions Community Centre in Cobourg will rock Saturday night, as Garage Dog performs a benefit concert for the new community centre. The local band features a rock/R&B sound made for dancing. Playing tunes from the very roots of rock-and-roll, their name comes from a love of the '60s garage sound. Their songs are drawn from a catalogue of neglected but still loveable tunes -- sort of like a garage dog that needs some love. Sharing the stage will be the Straight Faces, a youth band formed at the Northumberland Rock and Roll Experience under the watchful eye of owner/operator Mike Woods. Event organizer Paul Gruntz wanted to have an night where everyone could come out and enjoy themselves, and also raise some money for a good cause by supporting the Cobourg Community Centre. “ Five members of local band Garage Dog have been dusting off some classic hits. Expect tunes that mostly tend to be neglected. Tonight, April 1, Garage Dog will perform at Kelly's Homelike Inn. On April 29, they'll be at the The Mill Restaurant and Pub. "We try to avoid the cliché bar set," Woods noted. "The public response to it has been really good." It's a refreshing change for members to spotlight different material. "We've all been in other bands, so I think it's kind of a must," Rice said. "I have a great time doing this.
