About

Gabrielle Stravelli was the runner-up at the 2009 Jazzmobile Vocal Competition in Harlem, NY, received the 2008 Backstage/Bistro Award for Performer on the Rise and was named by John Hoglund of www.theaterscenes.net to a list of the top ten cabaret acts of 2008. "One of today's most promising vocalists...Gabrielle Stravelli is a pop/jazz cross between Norah Jones and Jane Monheit- only better." (John Hoglund)

Stravelli blends jazz, soul and world music into her sets. "When you come to see Gabrielle Stravelli...and you owe yourself that delight- be ready for a new musical experience. Gabrielle is one of a kind, and so is her show. First, there's Gabrielle herself...Then there's...the music-makers: a piano-less...ensemble featuring Dan Nadel on flamenco guitar, Rich Stein on hand percussion...together fusing Flamenco, Balkan, Middle Eastern and Klezmer styles." (Peter Haas, Cabaret Scenes)

Gabrielle began singing as a soloist with orchestras at the age of 15 and has since had the privilege and pleasure of performing on stages throughout the United States and Europe including Carnegie Hall, the Hammerstein Ballroom, the Iridium Jazz Club, BB King Blues Club and Birdland Jazz Club in NYC. Her style and musical choices have grown out of the music her parents introduced her to as a child: swing and big band, opera and musical theater, soul and gospel, combined with the music she discovered on her own: David Bowie, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Carmen McRae, Chick Corea, Joni Mitchell and Chet Baker, to name a few. She graduated with a BFA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and has studied with acclaimed jazz vocalists Nancy Marano and Marion Cowings. "If you're looking for the next Bette Midler or Amy Winehouse, she's not it. What she is, is the first Gabrielle Stravelli and that's so, so much better. She plucks the tunes from every which-where and turns them into powerhouse individual expressions. Right now, she's hotter than the equator." (David Finkle, Village Voice)
