Bio
The Front Porch Society is a collective of Singer/Songwriters which was born on the Back Deck of one of America's top acoustic music venues, McGonigel's Mucky Duck, which Billboard magazine called the "Irish pub known as Houston's premier songwriters club".
The Group includes Ben Hall and Randy Hill of the fabled 'Grunge Grass' Band, The Dragliners. Both, Powerful songwriters and performers, are able to showcase their talents with Society in their purest, most raw form.
Ben Hall has a style that is comfortably familiar but when listened to closely, has subtle humor and truth in just the right places.
Randy "Everlovin" Hill... the guy moves forward ninety to nothin'. Keeps the train rollin with FPS sound, MCing, planning, booking... everything. Then when it's time to hit the stage he's a wrecking ball of emotion and energy.
Huke Green hails from The Greater Channelview area at the mouth of Houston's Great Ship Channel. His sound has been described as Raw and Honest... one fan is quoted as saying "Musta Been da Water you was Drinking as a Kid... It's down with some Greasy Solid Groove Brother."
Nathan Taylor is a recent transplant from Lubbock, TX who brings a great deal of talents to the Porch. Not only is he an excellent Singer/Songwriter, he also supplies the leadwork for the group bringing fullness to their sound with use of Mandolin, Dobro, Electric guitars, Harmonica, and even Kazoo. Having built his skills in multi-Genres such as metal and punk bands in the past adds even more depth.
Matt Harlan is a songwriter's songwriter. He composes landscapes and statements disguised as songs. Often non-linear, but always melodic, Harlan's works confront social norms, celebrate lives overlooked, or just wax poetic about coffee and bus-stops. Whatever the inspiration, the music is always heartfelt and genuine.
Jimmy Pizzitola writes songs that are true to the tradition of the Texas singer-songwriters. His poetry and voice are unique, moving, and eclectic. His performances are nothing short of mesmerizing on stage.
The ever elusive Brett Mouton has been known to bring soul to the group. Some believe he doesn't even need a microphone. He has a steady show at the Firehouse Saloon and travels around the state to play his unique songs with a soulfulness that just flows so naturally.
Claire Small was born and raised in Nashville, but don't make the mistake of judging her or her music by any prejudices you might have against that town's rep for churning out mainstream country radio fodder. Claire Spent a few months in Houston and quickly became a permanant fixture in FPS history. Though she has moved from Houston to further her musical career elsewhere, she has a life long place in the Front Porch Society.
