About
Friction Farm is guitarist/vocalist Aidan Quinn and bassist/ vocalist Christine Stay. With just two people and two instruments, they create a lot of sound and a diverse repertoire.
Palm Beach duo Friction Farm has it down” New Times Magazine
Christine has an intensity that conveys a wide range of expression, intimate and vulnerable in one song, powerful and angst ridden in the next.
“Whether singing at a near whisper or belting for the rafters, her vocal
confidence and melodic tone never waiver.” City Link Magazine
Friction Farm’s sound is really built around Aidan’s big jangly guitar strum. He’ll hypnotize your feet into tapping along, then snap you out of it with some intricate flat picking. Best of all Aidan’s backing vocals recall classic 60's harmonies.
“Aidan Quinn’s spot-on guitar technique drive the songs plus his backing harmonies at times sound eerily like Lindsey Buckingham.” Connect Savannah
They were the 2008 winners of the South Florida Folk Festival Songwriter Competition and finalists in the Susquehanna Music Fest. They have opened for a wide variety of performers;, Tori Amos, Ben Folds, The Kennedys. Friction Farm’s latest CD “34 degrees, 32 minutes” features the duo on nine tracks ranging from twangy pleas for individuality to a delicate ode to the strength of a fellow musician. There are stories of civil war sailors, young protestors and lost socks, quotes from Dr. Suess and Thomas Paine, plus a great selection of musical guests.
