What’s in a band name? Most give a small taste of what an act might sound like, but the best leave things open to conjecture and intrigue. Such is the case with Folding Mr. Lincoln. The name allows husband and wife team, Harry and Nancy Mestyanek to escape pre-conceived notions about their sound.
Using Americana as a base, the duo cast a wide net for their debut album; Within My Reach. Within its fourteen tunes, this disc manages to take in sweet jangly pop, banjo driven folk, and Hammond drenched, country tinged, rock amongst its pleasures.
The pair have been making music together since 1973 and it shows, both in their vocals as well as their love of melody. It’s in the details, whether you consider the wonderfully arranged harmonies or the virtuoso performances from both the Mestyaneks and their superb group of all-star musical guests; it’s clear that these tunes come from a gathering of musicians who truly love their craft.
'Within My Reach' is as strong a debut album as you are likely to hear, this is heartfelt music at its best, with numerous songs that would make worthy singles – and several that deserve to become standards.

Others are……………..”friends who play and sing with us from time-to-time”. At its root, however, Folding Mr. Lincoln is two musicians who have known each other for a very long time; two people who have lived and loved a lot; a husband and wife with a huge appetite for music. Harry & Nancy are based in San Diego, California. “We are a folk / Americana / acoustic band. We perform mostly original songs as well as some covers. The songs we cover are often very special to us. We choose them because they evoke a feeling, express a certain tone, or contain a message we understand and wish to share with our audience”.
Folding Mr. Lincoln draws upon a wide range of musical influences. From established singer / songwriters such as: John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Sam Bush, Shawn Colvin, Steve Earle, James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Gram Parsons, and The Subdudes, to more contemporary artists such as: Peter Mulvey, Catie Curtis, Richard Shindell, Kris Delmhorst, Dar Williams, HEM, Uncle Tupelo, Lucy Kaplansky, The Bittersweets, Jimmy LaFave, Ellis Paul, and Ryan Adams.
