Bio

According to Fiyawata, the radio is a great example of what NOT to do. Fiyawata finds its pride of artistry in the fact that it steers clear of tired convention and strives always to create music that is original. Fiyawata boasts a signature sound, the mark of aural auteurs. These two have joined their talents in the Bay Area in order to forge a formidable new sound. Fiyaw “You could call Fiyawata hip-hop, but that would be kind of like calling Jimi Hendrix a guitarist.” - A&R Select

About

The Internet is becoming a great place to discover new and talented musicians that traditional means such as radio will not allow. Here comes this next musical duo that really has perfected their own unique sound that blends nicely rap, hip-hop, R&B, conscientious rap, Reggae, and spirituality into a nice package. I found myself repeating several of their tracks over and over again when I was listening to their CD. Fiyawata is not afraid to shine away from a conventional sound that seems to plug our airwaves there days. That is a good thing. The term “creating your own path” seems to fit Fiyawata down to a tee. The duo consists of Ambessa from Brooklyn, New York and Zakiya from Oakland, CA, two worlds coming together to make a unique sound in the music industry. It has been quoted that “Fiyawata's sound consists of a heady blend of hip-hop stylings, reggae groovaliciousness, deep and powerful soul and Afro-Latin elements” (http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=97609). Their message is that “a fine concoction of spiritual enlightenment, activism and day-to-day street life” (Fiyawata). This review is not just of their music but the whole act itself. I am giving Fiyawata a solid A+. You have to check this out for yourself. Good stuff people. You will not be disappointed.
