“Jim Price finished the weekend with my weekly Sunday Hurricanes fix at Shaw's. Good, happy crowd on hand as the Felix-Bob-Steve O-Joe edition of the 'Canes ("Kozmos & the Hurricanes") rocked the hell out of the place with their unpredictable mix of classics. What I'm liking about this line-up anymore is that they're breaking out tunes I never would have imagined the Hurricanes doing; this night Radiohead's "Creep" and Paul McCartney's "Hi Hi Hi!" I hadn't planned to do any sketching, but the urge hit me to do a quickie and capture the Shaw's 'scene' on another Hurricanes Sunday night!”

“was reminded again about the fun, personality, character, and innate charm of the part of the Altoona world known as Juniata. I was reminded of this during my latest night sojourn to Shaw's for Sunday Hurricaning. Fun, festive crowd of Juniata Nation enjoying the Felix/Bob/Joe/Steve model of the Hurricanes doing a fun and unpredictable range of tunes, this night even including the first documented Hurricanes rendition of Radiohead's "Creep!" There were tunes from Badfinger, Alice In Chains, Dobie Gray, Loverboy, Thin Lizzy and more, plus guest Lance Karstetter going full Morrison on the Doors' "Love Me Two Times!" Fun times were had with various Juniata peeps, and pen sketch action captured Juniatans enjoying the marvels of Sunday night Hurricaning!”

“Capped the weekend by heading to Shaw's for some Sunday Hurricaning...Upon entering, I witnessed as a smoked country jam broke out! Bedford fiddle meister Kevin Kutz was already on the stage with Felix, Bob and Jeff, and sawing that fiddle hard on a Zac Brown Band tune, before dueling with Felix on a hot rendition of "Rocky Top!" The smoking country jam then turned into a mountain jam during the final set, as guests Rick Ramsey and Ed Hofer joined Kevin and the 'Canes on guitar and tubano drum respectively. This set was smoking, with hot fiddling, Rick leading the 'Canes on a Sublime number, and Ed summoning the other hand drummer in the house (me) up to the stage to take over the tubano during Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and Zac Brown Band's "Sic 'Em on a Chicken" - the double-time ending gave me a workout! The mood was so fun that even a minor catfight in the late going couldn't thwart the happy moods! (I think it might have even enhanced them!) With all this craziness in the”

“Local legends, Felix and the Hurricanes opened the show and did a great job of getting the party started. These guys have played a ton a’ gigs and it shows. We opened this church meetin with “Nightclub”, “Rock n’ Roll City”, and “Mr. Right Now”. Folks was dancing n’ hanging, love it. “That Ain’t Gonna Happen”, and “I Seen Too Much”………powerful. “Hoochie Mama” continues to turn folks on, love it. Towards the end of the show we brought Felix up on stage to jam wit us. How bout some “It’s All Over Now”. How bout some “Barefootin”. How bout Felix on “Bow Legged Woman” with the tickler guitar orchestration. “Work Together”, “Mojo”, “Shake Your Moneymaker”, we should of brought Felix up on stage a little earlier, he’s fun to jam with.”

“Capped yet another Sunday night by witnessing the Hurricanes do that thing they do at Shaw's in Juniata. Yet again I was reminded that every Hurricanes' Sunday performance at Shaw's always establishes its own direction, flavor and nuances by night's end. This Sunday night, the night ended with the surreal scene of the Hurricanes with DD & the Pub Crawlers trombone man Matt Brown on the stage, closing with a version of Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" that somehow comfortably transitioned into Dr. Hook's "Cover of the Rolling Stone" and back to Nugent to finish the night. How the hell did they do that? Historians will ponder this for the ages, but bottom line, it was fun...”

“After attending to some post WingOff radio station duties, I made my way to Pellegrine’s for a dose of Thursday Hurricaning. The Hurricanes with keyboard man Dave Villani were on stage and doing what they do best, bringing their crisp blend of classic rock, blues, country and original tunes. The group did original song favorites like “Black Widow,” “Walking a Straight Line” and “La La Land”; broke out Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Rude Mood,” Marshall Tucker Band’s “Heard It in a Love Song,” the Doors’ “Love Her Madly,” the Allmans’ “Midnight Rider” and more. Musicianship was again top shelf, with Felix Kos’ guitar and Dave Villani’s keys chatting back and forth, blending and yielding impressive results. Jeff Clapper’s bass work again sounded masterful, and Bob Watters’ drum beats were punchy and commanding. The Pelly’s fans enjoyed it; again a good time! ”

“Felix of the Altoona (Pennsylvania) band FELIX AND THE HURRICANES is one kool kat. In this photo, he looks totally blissed out. He should be blissed out, because Felix and The Hurricanes just won the 2009 International Blues Challenge (IBC) for western Pennsylvania bands. The finals were held on April 26th at Moondog's in Blawnox (Pittsburgh), PA, and Felix prevailed over tough competition from Ron Yarosz and The Vehicle, Jill West and Blues Attack, and Craig King and Kings Ransom. This means that Felix and The Hurricanes won a $1000 prize, a slot at the Pittsburgh Blues Festival on July 25th, and will compete in the IBC finals on historic Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee in February 2010. WAY TO GO, FELIX!! ”
