Expo '76 / Press

“Since the chill of last winter, the pop-rock band Expo ’76 has held a warm monthly residency at the west end of Simon’s Tavern in Andersonville. The quartet is led by Dag Juhlin, who is best known as guitarist with Poi Dog Pondering and the Slugs. They play sunny AM radio chestnuts like Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” and the Grass Roots’ “Temptation Eyes” in the only bar in Chicago that has a Viking ax hanging on the wall. Last month when the Poi Dog/Wilco horns guested with Expo ’76, the ensemble reached back for a stunning cover of the Five Stairsteps’ 1970 soul hit “Ooh Child.””
