Reality, fiction and mystery

”My Black Heart” is the debut EP from Esther Maria & The Song Horse. A release compiled of five tracks, within which many different worlds meet.

Esther Maria lives and works in Aarhus, Denmark, but has her roots in Derby, England. After singing jazz for about 10 years she
started writing her own songs and music in 2008 – now within the realm of ”alternative” country, folk and rock.

The EP is a result of solid and founded songwriting, where fiction, mystery and reality are bound together by a voice with great nuances, expression and a band that creates dreamy musical landscapes.

In November 2008 Esther Maria had her single “Never Can It Be” released on the compilation called “SOPA Curiosa” on the indie label Sound Of Perpetual Astonishment. Danish online music zine Undertoner
wrote:

“Let me highlight Esther Maria, who in interaction with her acoustic guitar, reveals her very personal, theatrical and vibrating sound, like a forgotten jazz singer from the 30’s, not unlike Bianca Cassidy from Coco Rosie.”

”My Black Heart” was recorded during 2009 in her hometown of Aarhus with Søren Zahle. It was mastered by Palle Schultz.

Esther Maria’s next album is to be produced and recorded by the indie producer Mark Kramer in New York in 2010 and will mainly be an acoustic album with a much more stripped down and raw feel.
