Yes. Eric Stinnett is more than your average R&B/Soul singer. Yes, his looks may be reminiscent of the R&B singer Joe, and yes he sounds like a blend of many pioneers within the R&B/Soul genre like: Brian McKnight, D'Angelo, Anthony Hamilton, Maxwell, Kem and Eric Benet. So just what makes Eric different? His story. He took the road less traveled.
Like many other great soul singers, he too honed his early musical gifts singing in the church. Eric excelled at trombone while playing in jazz ensembles during high school and began weaving its brassy sound into his own gospel & soul-inspired vocal style. Soon after high school, Eric was awarded a partial music scholarship to the University of Miami and graduated with honors from its music business program. He served as president of UM's student record label and after an internship at EMI music publishing in New York, made preparations to work as an A&R rep at a major record label.
Much to his surprise, he would never realize this dream but he would find himself torn between two loves, the business side of music, and the creative side – which began calling his name stronger than ever. This once faint calling for creativity soon became a loud plea he could not ignore when after graduation Eric found himself buried in a mountain of debt and on the brink of losing everything he owned.
These circumstances, while briefly demoralizing his mind, fueled his search for himself through his expression of music. Eric calls these trying times his “blessings of adversity”. They were necessary to redirect his path, and ignite the passion he always had for music.
His debut EP, "Chocolate Soul", embodies his freshly inspired sound, and sets the stage for his new scene as a budding musician. The first single, "Whiplash" has been in rotation on Internet radio & in the UK since debuting in Atlanta's International Soul Summit 2007. Platinum-selling Producer & Vocal Arranger, Kipper Jones of Boyz II Men & Kenny Lattimore says, “Eric you are really doin' it man!”
