About
El Ka Bong is a performing group of musicians hailing from the Finger Lakes region since 2007, providing a unique blend of sounds that encompass elements of Latin, jazz, and reggae with a rock improv sensibility. Just coming out of the breakup of progressive rock band, “Arbitrary Cause” in 2006, founding members James Eddington, Aaron Holland, James Ralls, and Zach Schoonover decided it was time for a whole new outlook on the world of music. With a new name and fresh style, they adopted the name “El Ka Bong” and managed to land house band gigs at local restaurants “Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant”, and “Irene’s Coffee and Jazz House” in early 2007. Looking to expand their sound, the band picked up two more members, vocalist Laura Black and Matt Hurd on percussion later that year. Within a short time, El Ka Bong has grown popular, playing at festivals, bars, parties, and several high profile venues--opening up for the likes of John Brown’s Body, Umphreys McGee, Donna the Buffalo, The Mambo Kings, Jim Brickman, Gym Class Heroes, and Ra Ra Riot. El Ka Bong recorded their first EP in 2008 titled “Pass It On,” and a full length CD, “The Harvest,” released in early 2009. Spreading like the wildest of wildfires, El Ka Bong has rocked venues all along the east coast and has its sights set on the rest of the world.
