Biography:

Eddy Khaimovich was born in Vilnius, Lithuania (former USSR) and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1990. He began playing classical bass at age 15 and soon progressed from classical to contemporary, to world music and finally, at 22, to jazz where his multiform tastes caused him to explore many types of music as a player and a composer. Eddy studied classical bass in Rubin Academy in Jerusalem and jazz bass at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City after his arrival in the United States in 2001, where he was granted a scholarship. During each of the years 1995 to 2003, Eddy was awarded the prestigious America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship.

Classical

As young classical musician, Eddy held the position of Principal Bass of the Young Israel Philharmonic, and performed regularly with the Israel Philharmonic and Jerusalem TV and Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has also performed solo recitals and chamber music throughout Israel and Europe, performing in such venues as The Mann Auditorium of Tel-Aviv, Israel; Berlin Philharmonic, Germany; Grand Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow Conservatoire, Russia; Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Holland and Xinghai Hall, China. He has played with Yuri Bashmet, Maxim Vengerov, Vladimir Spivakov and under the baton of such conductors as Kurt Masur, Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, Yuri Temirkanov, Daniel Barenboim and Lorin Maazel.

Eddy's chamber music credits include the CD recording with the David Glukh Chamber Ensemble, where he performed works by Bach, Mozart, Handel and Purcell. Eddy also performs chamber music with various artists in the NYC metropolitan area.

Jazz

Early on, Eddy played with top Israeli Jazz artists including the Chassidic Jazz Quartet, led by the great late saxophonist Roman Kunsman. The group used ancient Chassidic Nigunim (chants) as a basis for their free Jazz explorations. In addition, Eddy has appeared in a special feature of the Israeli National Broadcast on the "Kol Ha Muzika" radio channel (2003) featuring his music, as well as receiving coverage from multiple music programs on the Israel Second TV Channel "Shidurei Keshet", Israel Cable Channel 10 and RTVI International TV . Eddy has appeared on the "Night Bird" talk-show and in a live broadcast from the International Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival (2003), which was aired in over thirty countries around the globe.

As a performer, Eddy has played throughout the world with his own band, and with artists such as Roy Hargrove, Jeff Hirshfield, James Moody, Hal Galper, Arnie Lawrence, Henry Threadgill, Mike Holober, Gene Jackson, David Schnitter, Bill Goodwin, Valery Ponomarev, Curtis Fowlkes and Mark Ferber. He has performed at many prestigious festivals around the world such as The Red Sea Jazz Festival, Eilat, Israel; Verbier Music Festival, Switzerland; Moscow International Festival, Russia; International Millennium Festival, Beijing, China; Tel Aviv International Jazz Festival and Jerusalem Festival, Israel; International World Music Festival, Charleston, SC; Valencia Music Festival, Spain; Trail Mix Music Festival, NY; Maplewood First Night Festival, NJ.

Eddy has performed at numerous, important music venues such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall in New York, Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington DC, Pallacio De Las Bellas Artes in Mexico City, DF, Mexico, Meyerson Symphony Hall, Dallas, TX, and jazz clubs such as The Blue Note, Sweet Rhythm, Smalls, Cachaca, 55Bar, The Knitting Factory, Joe's Pub and Cornelia St. Café in New York, among others.

Currently

In the classical field, Eddy is performing with such orchestras as The Philharmonic Orchestra of Americas where is the co-principal bassist and with The New England Symphonic Ensemble.

On the World Music scene, Eddy has collaborated with the violinist Lara St. John, a Sony Classical recording artist, trumpeter Mark Gould of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed pianist/composer/accordionist Dr. Ronn Yedidia.

In jazz, Eddy keeps a busy schedule performing and recording with various artists in NYC and has recently recorded his first CD as a co-leader with a quartet featuring jazz pianist Roy Assaf. The CD features trumpeter Roy Hargrove in addition to quartet members Robin Verheyen on saxophone and Ronen Itzik on drums.

Eddy resides in New York.
