Bio
Ebinho Cardoso has been gaining popularity on the Brazilian music scene thanks to his innovative way of playing the bass. Composer, arranger and researcher, he uses the electric bass' atypical elements, showing the possibilities of the bass as an instrument for rhythm section, solo projects and especially harmony. These characteristics all join in his live performances that combine precision and refinement. He connects the particularities of jazz music, classical music and popular Brazilian music. One man and his bass is what best defines Ebinho Cardoso. His debut release, No Rastro dos Ruídos Remotos das Rodas da Infância, a direct reference to the trail of sound and noises left by childhood, is filled with emotions leaving you with hope and succumbed by relaxation. The first impression is Jazz but getting deeper into the sound a Latin/African vibe spreads out which accompanies his wild bass throughout the álbum which ends with a layer of classical music coming into play. His influences are clear, this young man hás been breathing the likes of Pat Metheny, Keith Jarret and Milton Nascimento but he only uses these greats as reference as he hás managed to develop, very soon, his own style: this sometimes could even make you think he is playing the guitar and not a six-chord electric bass! As a side project, after researching the possibilities of the bass as a harmonic instrument, he launched a book "Harmony and Dictionary of Chords for Electric Bass", the first book specifically on training, composition and use of chords, published in Brazil.
