Since forming in 2004, DURESS has become a staple of the independant hard rock scene in Orange County as well as the action sports music scene. "That whole lifestyle blend between the music scene and the action sports scene is just a natural thing for us. When you grow up in Orange County, every kid has a skateboard, surfboard, snowboard or bmx bike. We just happened to have an obsession with our instruments too," says DURESS singer/guitarist, Chad Benekos. DURESS' overall sound lies somewhere on the edges of bands like the Foo Fighters, Failure and the Deftones. With a unique style that blends street syle indie rock with space jam atmospheres, DURESS delivers a full spectrum of sound and emotion throughout their songs. Following the release of their debut album; 2007's The Time Is Now, word of mouth spread quickly as the bands intense live shows cemented their name in the local scene in and around Orange County and Los Angeles. DURESS' live shows from that period garnered support from some of the bigger names in the music industry including members of Cypress Hill, Korn, LIT, Papa Roach, and more. The band was then nominated for and won the "People's Choice Award" at 2009's Orange County Music Awards. This was the only award voted on by the fans, and from the strength of that the OC Weekly ran an article about DURESS titled Populist Revolt. "Their uninhibited embrace of straight ahead rock contrasts the many folksy, poppy sounding bands populating the local scene. Songs such as "Look Away" (off their second album, Stand Tall, out this summer) zip with a slick drive, showcasing their knack for crafting potential future arena anthems." - OC Weekly 2009. Currently the band is preparing for the release of their sophomore album Stand Tall and all that awaits them in 2010.
