After creating a phenominal buzz with their debut single, "you'll never find," which ended up on Funk Master Flex's "60 minutes of funk, volume 4," the group In Essence set out on a musical journey that would set them apart from the typical main stream R&B sound into a caliber of their own.
At the four front of this five man group is a talented young man who goes by the name "Dru." After winning the Canadian Juno award in 2004 and touring Europe consistently after that, Dru is now ready to make his mark in the industry as a solo artist. With influences such as Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Donelle Jones and D'angelo, Dru has also earned his place as a songwriter and vocal producer not only for his own projects but also for other local artists as well, creating a compendium of tracks in different genres of music.
With such talent and versatility, it is no wonder that Dru is receiving the rapid attention of various major US labels. From his still steady role as lead singer of In Essence to his present pursuit of a solo career, Dru has managed to maintain his drive, talent and humble but yet unquestionable ability to create and master a style of music that is simply described as, R&B with a touch of old and new school sound with a subtle but infectious street edge.
Armed only with an amazingly soulful voice and a modest personality, Dru is prepared and ready to introduce a new brand of style and flavor to the music world. His capacity to remain a vital member of In Essence for many years shows his resilience and ambition to want to succeed as well as his undoubtable love for the art of music.
Dru's Solo debut album entitled "The One" will be released first quarter of 2008. The album will be released Under Effortless Entertainment/Morojele Music Group and distributed in Canada by Fontana North.
