About
Tim Staump is a musician and visionary entrepreneur working in the entertainment industry. Beginning at age ten, he had a modeling contract with the renown Nina Blanchard Agency. During his contract he appeared in a Warner Brother's Looney Tunes commercial, as well as various magazine prints. At this same time, Tim's parents were getting a divorce. He was abruptly moved from the Bay Area to San Diego County, where he would live with his Grandparents. Throughout the chaos of the new move, Tim began to turn to music to help him deal with the rough times. The music that began to influence him was a mixture of hip hop, rock, and jazz. Tim developed a great love for the music of the 90's, listening to artists like Dr. Dre, The Beastie Boys, Guns and Roses, and Mega Death. Tim's grandparents were responsible for introducing him to the world of jazz, and he developed a great appreciation for the musicians of the time: Miles Davis, Buddy Rich, Louis Bellson, and Besty Smith. His Grandfather, who was a WWII marine, also introduced him to all the Sousa Marches.
Tim's move to San Diego was where he truly began to nurture his interest in drumming. He began playing drums with his elementary school band. He continued playing with the school band in junior high, and he began studying privately with James Morton. Tim also began jamming with various garage bands. When he started high school he played in the high school's band, and began studying with Kirk Hoffman. He performed as a guest percussionist for Fred Benedetti and the Grossmont College Symphonic Orchestra, as well as with the Grossmont College Concert Band and Jazz Band. Through the rest of Tim's high school career he became a regular percussionist for the Grossmont College's musical ensembles. It was in high school that Tim began to perform professionally. He began performing weekly for various theatres in San Diego County. During his junior year of high school, Tim joined the West Coast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, where he studied from Ryan Stohs and Tyler Dempsey. After completing a national tour with West Coast Sound, Tim returned for his senior year of high school and began teaching drum lessons. Tim graduated from high school in 2000. After his graduation he marched one more year of DCI and created his company, Staump Productions.
In 2001 Tim was offered a teaching position in Bakersfield, California, where he directed and competed with the drumlines from Centennial and Liberty High School. While in Bakersfield, Tim also got into the country music scene. He had the opportunity to play with ASCAP artist Willie John in a southern blues band. After leading his schools to WGI Championships, he decided to bring his knowledge back to San Diego. He continued teaching privately, and he taught at different junior highs and high schools throughout San Diego. He also performed around town with various orchestras and bands ranging anywhere from jazz, to rock, to hip hop. At this time Tim committed entirely to drumset, and began studying from Zoro the Drummer. Zoro became an influential mentor. As Tim worked to sharpen his drumset skills, he also began promoting for the underground hip hop scene, and for various radio DJ's such as DJ Big Daddy and Tommy T from the Funny Farm, They worked together to promote clubs and shows throughout San Diego for various artists like Ja O Felony, Mitchy Slick, Lil Uno, and DJ Fingaz.
In October of 2004, Staump Productions created and launched Staump.com, a social networking site for independent artists. Staump.com started out as a small site that Tim used to connect to other artists, but it soon grew into featuring known artists like Journey. Staump.com also maintains profiles for over 1400 artists from all over the world. There are artists from all fifty states, and nineteen different countries. Staump Productions began referring artists to a site called Ourstage.com. Ourstage quickly noticed the successful promoting abilities of Staump Productions, and they decided to contact Tim Staump to offer him a promoting deal due to the extreme number of referrals Staump Productions had achieved.
Tim became more interested in recording, so Zoro introduced him to Mark Schulman. After going through Mark's "Drummer's Recording Seminar," and having the opportunity to study privately with Mark, Tim began to build a project studio. In 2007 Tim finished producing and recording the album "Mi Vida Bonita," for Maria Staump. In 2008 Staump Productions became Incorporated in the state of California. In January of 2009 Staump Productions LLC moved into its' first commercial facility in Santee, California. Since opening to the public, Staump Productions LLC has successfully recorded over 100 tracks for local San Diego bands/artists. Staump Productions LLC has also created a music school with a student base of over fifty private students every week, and currently offers lessons with four different teachers. All students are taught music theory, composition, technique, and an overall competency on their instrument. Staump Productions also offers the opportunity for every student to gain experience in the recording and performance settings.Lessons are offered for drums, voice, guitar, bass, violin, saxophone, mandolin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, and piano.
Currently, Tim Staump is playing and performing throughout Southern California with a cover band and with the Maria Staump Band. He is also an endorsed Vic Firth educator, and continues to contribute to music eduction in San Diego County. He is recording and producing various projects in his project studio, as well as, executive producing a music video for the band Drop Dead Julio, under the direction of Viking Hamlet Productions.
