16, DOWNSPELL, SEMTEX VEST, D.I.S. (DESTROYED IN SECONDS) & P.O.O.R. (POINT OF OUR RESISTANCE) $7 DOORS: 7 PM / SHOW: 8 PM 16: Southern California's 16 started in 1992 when founding members and longtime friends - guitarist Bobby Ferry, drummer Jason Corley and singer Cris Jerue needed a way to vent life's frustrations. The band recorded its first four songs that same year and released them as the "Doorprize" 2 X 7". Positive reviews and word of mouth led to the band being contacted by world renowned artist Pushead, about recording and releasing a 7" for his Fan Club. After hearing the next recording session, Pushead wanted to release a full length CD and 10" record. The "Crystal" 7" was released through the Fan Club in 1992, preceding the 1993 release of the band's first full length ("Curves That Kick") in the US and Japan. With a long list of local shows, more recording and the addition of bass player Tony Baumeister, 16 became stronger, and went on to release the Japanese only CD "Preoccupied," along with numerous 7" singles. Soon after, they embarked on their first tour of Japan in 1994. 16 recorded the critically acclaimed "Drop Out" record that same year. The band ended their relationship with Pushead, and "Drop Out" was finally released in 1996 on Pessimiser records. That same year, the band began recording and released "Blaze of Incompetence" in 1997, resulting in more local shows and a US tour followed in 1998. After the release of "Blaze of Incompetence," The band continued to play shows, record and release more 7" and 10" singles leading up to the release of "Zoloft Smile" on At a Loss Recordings in 2002. More local shows and a UK tour followed. Two more US tours followed, as well as their 2nd stint in Japan. In 2003, after releasing 4 full-length records and 15 singles and splits, 16 was laid to rest. Bobby and Jason focused on other projects and nothing seemed to bring the satisfaction that 16 did. Tony was involved in another project as well, and Cris just existed. In August of 2007, some random email and phone conversations led Bobby, Jason, Cris and Tony to get 16 back together again. A few months later 16 were approached by Relapse Records and joined the Relapse family. 2008 marks the 16 year anniversary for 16 and the band is currently recording their first record for Relapse. 16 are back with a vengeance and are here to stay. There have been a handful of small local shows and the band will be touring extensively around the world starting in early 2009. Turn up, tune down, give up... DOWNSPELL is a San Diego based Death Metal/Grind band that has been on the scene for over 10 years. Downspell first started in Sitka Alaska in 1999. Last album put out was 7 Dead 6 Wounded… and had a very big name on the metal scene do some guest vocals. Randy Blythe of LAMB OF GOD did guest vocals on the song in-titled Submission. The next album to come out is in-titled THE VIOLENT MAJORITY and will have more guest vocals by Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation, Kevin Sharp of Brutal Truth and ex-Anthrax, Nuclear Assault, and Stormtroopers Of Death, current bass guitarist of Brutal Truth Dan Lilker. Downspell released The Violent Majority in June of 2011. Shortly after the west coast tour, Downspell was awarded the Hard Rock Album of the Year by the San Diego Music Awards for The Violent Majority. Now Downspell is taking the live show to Mexico for the Obscene Extreme America Festival March 29th! SEMTEX VEST got it's start in late 2005. Christian and Ruben formerly of DEAD AMERICA (90's OC punk superheros / Costa Mesa troublemakers) which featured John Haddad (ex-PHOBIA and current FINAL CONFLICT) called it quits in 2003. Kent, long time Dead America Fan and wannabe Costa Mesa Troublemaker, had been playing drums for years with Sludgecore giants, MANGE, which featured Todd K (DYSTOPIA) and Bruce R. (PHOBIA). After the demise of Dead America, Christian and Ruben had spent nearly two years trying to fufill their self fufilled prophecy later known as Semtex Vest. After two years of unsuccessful collaboration and many sleepless nights of depression, it finally dawned on Christian to give old friend "Kent" a call. Having been in MANGE for almost 9 years and only playing 3 shows, kent accepted the invitation with open arms (No disrespect....Mange was a great band, we all lived too far apart). The timing couldn't have been better. Mange disbanded several days after Christian gave Kent a call and thus, Semtex Vest was born. Fast Forward 2009 – Steve replaces Kent on Obo and we're in process of finalizing full length and writing new tunes with one handed drum rolls and backwards blast beats, by virtue of a crushing grindcore band. D.I.S. (DESTROYED IN SECONDS): Like many in the “scene” today, the influences of D.I.S. should come as no surprise just from the first listen, but their music stands out far above the rest from todays Discharged-Entombed soaked HM-2 worshiping clones! D.I.S. is no stranger to the underground, the sounds that influenced it and them. Formed in Los Angeles in 2008 by original members of Phobia, Mange and Eat the Living, their musical pedigree, experience and dedication spans decades. Each member bringing something different to the table resulting in an explosive charge of energy and originality to an almost predictable scene and style of music. P.O.O.R. (POINT OF OUR RESISTANCE): The idea for POOR was to make a grindcore band along the lines of earlier NASUM, but somehow it has morphed into whatever comes out of us. It sounds a lot like a cross between our old bands DECRYPT and STUMP. Very short songs that are done before they even started. There is no hidden meaning behind any of it. Just fast for the sake of being fast. Neil enlisted Brad Vanderzee (Dirty Dead, Moistened Desciples, Pink Machines, ex-Decrypt) for session drums, and a few friends from his various other bands on vocals. After a 5 year hiatus, POOR is back. We have enlisted Art Hayes from FATALIST on Bass and Dylan Kuhn from Burning at the Stake on Vocals.

If you’re looking for some quality San Diego metal, Eukaryst is your band. They don’t pledge allegiance to some random subgenre, they don’t wear corpse paint and they don’t have an obnoxious emo singer. Nope, they just provide gnarly riffs that’ll have you banging your head till your neck is sore.
