About

Downfall Funeral
Formed in 1992, in the South Texas Border town of Laredo, Downfall Funeral merged the talents of Victor Romero (keys/guitar), Rafael Rodriguez (bass), Christopher Martinez (voice/guitar), and former member Robert Flores (drums). Although much of the early years were a blur, it was a time of trial and error. Much of the material created, was done so as a learning experience.

In 1998, Downfall left Laredo behind to see what the self-proclaimed "Music Capital of the World" (Austin, TX.) might have to offer. Crowded into a small home in the neighboring town of San Marcos, Downfall quickly saw fit to complete their first self-titled album. Little did they know that from start to finish, recording would take a grueling 12 months to complete due to unfortunate set backs. The end result, a seventy-two minute, eight track, self-titled album described as symphonic wall of emotion complemented by indigenous beats of the old world. Successful reviews such as one by critic Lisa Swiss of Industrial Nation Music Magazine, helped bridged a darker and more beautiful audience known as Goth.

Playing became a priority. Shows played left and right got them recognition in the local press. Just as the band began gaining momentum, they were shocked at the announcement of drummer Robert Flores decision to leave Downfall Funeral. "It was a difficult time for us because we were not just losing a band mate; we were losing a great friend as well." - Martinez. This departure had been the result of an on and off again relationship the band had with drummer Robert Flores.

Downfall wasted no time in finding a replacement. Because of the band's long time relationship, it was important for them to find a replacement that was going to stand the length of time. They were more interested in gaining a friend than a flash, skilled drummer. With this in mind, vocalist, Christopher Martinez recruited his brother Joshua, to fill a very large void left behind by long time friend, Robert.

He was a prime candidate because he new the band inside and out. He had spent much of Downfall's existence in the front row listening in as a devoted fan. In a little as one year spent working with Josh, he had already surpassed the bands expectations. They began writing, once more, in prep for their second album. His style completely shattered their old ways of writing. They wrote without limitations that were normally present by Flores' non-traditional kit.

Currently DF is celebrating the release of their second album, Red Fluorescent, which was written and produced in less than a year. The album, which contains eight tracks, is heavily influenced by the sounds of the post punk/new wave era of the late 70's early 80's. Red Fluorescent reflects a sound that is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory.
