January 2nd 1998 will mark Douglas B. Smith's first venture into the professional music scene of his hometown of Kingston, Ontario, CANADA. It is on this day that Douglas would meet a local musician, join his band, and tour with this band for the next 10 years at numerous Music Festivals and Clubs across Ontario. Douglas would record 3 CDs with this band, and a 2001 CD would feature the 1st original track from Douglas, titled “Face Your Fears”. After writing this song, and hearing & reading some positive reviews from peers, Douglas would venture more into songwriting. In 2004, while on the road, Douglas would begin to write songs, lyrically, then later would put music to these lyrics, record, perform, and produce them in a home studio, and the result would become his 1st Solo CD called “I'LL BE THERE”. Released in December of 2006, I'll Be There is a collection of 17 Original Acoustic Rock Songs. From the beginning of the CD, right through to the end, Douglas shares with the listener some life experiences that he, or people close to him have gone through, such as the passing of his wife's Father (You Are Loved), to relationships that have fallen apart (I Guess I Didn't Love You All Along), Commitment issues (Afraid Of Love), a dedication to all Mothers (Mother), and a song written for his wife (Heaven Sent). Douglas would continue writing, and his music style would change also, from his earlier songs, which he considered top 40 rock, to more of a hard rock sound, which would become evident on his 2nd solo CD release “THIS MIGHT TAKE A WHILE”. This Might Take A While was released on October 31st 2007, and, in the same style of I'll Be There, would be written, performed, recorded, & produced by Douglas. The result would be a better produced CD, 15 acoustic rock songs, with more percussion, and more electric guitars. Evidence of the hard rock direction would shine through in the songs Live Your Life, & For Eternity. Douglas would again share with the listener, some personal experiences, and would also include his first cover song, “Dream On”, the 1989 hit from Philadelphia rock band Britny Fox. The year 2008 will see a new CD release from Douglas B. Smith, it will be a Hard Rock CD, featuring 15 New Original Tracks. The CD is being recorded at Concept Audio in Kingston Ontario, and features Douglas on Lead and Backing vocals, Lead, Rhythm, Acoustic, & Bass Guitars, and features Duncan Holt on all Drum tracks. Watch for this CD to be released in late 2008, and a tour of this disc in spring 2009; I guarantee you will not be left disappointed.
