Bio
Distant 2nd is a hard rock back from North New Jersey, with influences ranging from Nine Inch Nails and Type O Negative to Spineshank and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The sound is intense and the lyrics tend to gravitate around philosophies on life and death.
Distant 2nd originally formed as a one man band in 1998, with a wide range of music from instrumentals, to electronica to rock.
Currently, Distant 2nd is a trio, featuring Greg Sierpowski on bass, Randy Wilson on vocals and guitar, and a vacant spot for keys/synth..
About
The Distant 2nd Q&A board
Q: What band do you sound most like?
A: None! If we had to be shoehorned into someone else's sound, it'd be someplace between Korn, Nine Inch Nails and Type O Negative, with a hint of Linkin Park. It really is confusing to explain this way. :)
Q: How and why did you come up with the name "Distant 2nd"?
A: It started off as my (Randy's) screen name after my first relationship went to crap do to another guy being in the picture. I was the distant 2nd option. The name Distant 2nd often refers to a race, but also used as a preference - "Going camping is a distant 2nd to a carribean cruise". The name stuck as I began my first solo projects, which would evolve into the band as we know it.
Q: Where do you get inspiration from?
A: Lots of stuff - concerts, movies, observations and philosophies on life, basically anything that makes us think.
Q: I'm from the south Pennsylvania area. There's a band called "A Distant Second" over there. Did you steal the name?
A: Nope. We actually came across their Myspace page one time, when they first formed in 2007. We told them that their name might cause confusion with our fans, but they chose to ignore us. They felt that the names were different enough. That said, Distant 2nd has been around since 1998, with several songs registered as copywritten with the Library of Congress. In other words, we had the name first.
Q: Do you dress up in costumes for live shows?
A: If you mean like Kiss and GWAR, no. We've been feeling out the best way to present ourselves on stage. Wearing regular clothes might be boring to see. We might go with what we like to call "Athletic Goth", a bit like Korn's visual style perhaps. Its still all being decided.
