“Evolution's Mistake marks a rebirth for Toronto Metal band Desolate Rage. After spending more than a decade under the banner of 'Condemned', the latest offering from this foreboding foursome builds on their staple sound of aggressive rhythms and tight tempo changes, to incorporate elements of Speed and Groove Metal, while sticking to their Thrash roots…...Images of a post-apocalyptic battle field dance across this soundtrack. While the unpredictable structure leads from hypnotic chugging riffs, into a dark atmosphere of lush harmonies, right before launching into a full out assault……….When put all together, the album showcases the band's stylistic growth and perhaps even a peek at what's to come from these Knights of Thrash Metal Mayhem.”
“Desolate Rage play a very acidic style of aggressive thrash metal. Not really speedy, but more angry and violent, with very screechy and anger-filled vocals. The riffs are solid and the solos are pretty sharp with strong drumming to keep the pace going forward at a hefty clip. The music itself is a bit of a technical thrash as there is lots of time changes and variety from track to track to keep things fresh overall. Tracks such as Control, Hook, Line & Sinker and Horns To Hell are very solid thrash staples that don't tear or wear on the listener after several listens.”
