About
Desmond Chancer is the sort of midnight crooner you'd expect to find chain smoking in an empty bar in the wee hours, bawling into a microphone through neglected vocal cords. Fortunately for Desmond Chancer And The Long Memories, however, these aforementioned bars are not quite so empty, and it would seem that many are enchanted by his deep booming voice, charming persona, and marvellous musical accompaniment.
His version of the popular Christmas carol “Silent Night” is sure to turn heads. Performed with his trademark bellow, and accompanied by Junkfood Jones tinkling on the blacks and whites and Anna Soprano providing violin and backing vocals, “Silent Night” delivers true Christmas spirit, if not cheer. The B-Side is the Desmond Chancer staple, “The Funny Side”, a bittersweet dirge about love lost and trying in vain to keep your chin up.
In keeping with the charitable nature of this time of year, all of the proceeds from this release will be donated to Oxfam, the leading international NGO in the delivery of aid and development work, who labour tirelessly around the world in order to alleviate poverty and suffering. Oxfam tackles a multitude of issues across the globe such as fair trade, health, education, and the delivery of aid during and after conflict and natural disaster, making it one of the widest reaching charitable organisations in the world.
"Silent Night" will be released on 10th December 2007 and will be available to download at a price of £0.99 from the VillainousRecords.com online shop, with all proceeds going to Oxfam GB.
