If you enjoy original piano-driven original music, have a listen to Dave Turner. As a singer-songwriter, his instrument is nowhere near as portable as the guitar-toting variety, but it's a trade-off he gladly makes.
"The piano has always been at the center of my musical interest and creativity," says Dave, who grew up on Elton John, Billy Joel, Randy Newman, and Tom Waits. All of these pianists, vocalists, composers and performers have been foundational in Dave's development as a performing singer and songwriter. Dave's piano music is also influenced by the new generation of contemporary ivory-ticklers led by the ground-breaking work of Ben Folds and Regina Spektor.
"When I was a kid, I had to have every Elton John album I could get my hands on," he says. "I remember sitting in my room and hearing 'Tumbleweed Connection' and 'Honky Chateau' and 'Madman Across the Water,' and I was hooked. Since then Elton John and so many other piano music icons—Bruce Hornsby is another—have inspired and motivated me as I've tried to create my own unique style."
Whether it's live performance, on CD or via download on iTunes, Dave Turner will give you a fresh perspective on the piano via contemporary Americana, heavy-handed playing, strong vocals, and soul-searching stories.
Dave released "Stories That Are True," a 14-song record on his own label (Morning Storm Music) in summer 2004. He is writing and recording a new CD (pre-orders available now!) to be released in 2007.
